Käthe Kollwitz, 1867 – 1945 was a German expressionist painter/printmaker. Kollwitz was the first woman to be elected by the Prussian Academy of arts and also the first to receive honorary professor status. Her work is incredibly moving and I could think of no better inspiration for my first linocut than this master printmaker.
